Method, sources and limitations
Purpose and limits
Work interests supports self-directed career exploration by reflecting which types of work activities you may enjoy. It does not measure ability, qualifications, personality or suitability, and it does not predict future success or make employment decisions. It is not intended for recruitment, candidate filtering or ranking, promotion, dismissal, work allocation or performance monitoring, and it should not be the sole basis for an important decision about a person.
O*NET Interest Profiler
The first 30 questions use and adapt the O*NET Mini Interest Profiler 2.0. You can then choose to continue to the 60-question O*NET Interest Profiler Short Form. Both are part of the O*NET Career Exploration Tools from the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration (USDOL/ETA). AltoTrail arranges the questions in two parts and provides the presentation, integrations and adapted translations where applicable. Equivalence to the official questionnaire and between languages has not been established.
O*NET Database
Occupation-level interest profiles come from the O*NET 30.3 Database from USDOL/ETA, used under CC BY 4.0. AltoTrail applies its own deterministic matching and presentation to locally tracked data; this is not an O*NET Web Services runtime integration.
ESCO
This service uses the ESCO classification of the European Commission. AltoTrail uses ESCO 1.2.1 occupation identities, labels and routes for European occupation exploration.

The official source maps O*NET-SOC 2019 occupations to ESCO 1.1.0. AltoTrail validates and applies the source relations to project O*NET candidates into the currently published ESCO 1.2.1 occupation authority, then filters and localizes the presentation. AltoTrail did not author the meanings of the source relations.
AltoTrail's contribution
AltoTrail provides the five-locale web experience, local deterministic scoring, matching against tracked O*NET occupation-interest profiles, projection and publication through current ESCO occupations, localized occupation pages, version controls, accessibility behavior and contract tests.
Privacy
Your questionnaire answers stay in your browser, where your interest profile is calculated. Only six aggregated interest scores are sent to AltoTrail's server to find occupation suggestions; raw answers are not sent. After you finish, your answers and preparation choice are kept in this page's browser history so Back can restore your result and let you change your answers. Your browser may save this information to disk and restore it after a restart. Start over clears the saved answers and preparation choice from the current history entry when your browser allows the change; copies may remain in other tabs or the browser's session recovery data. AltoTrail does not save the assessment profile on its server or link it to an account, email address, job alert or application. Answers are not stored in localStorage or sessionStorage. The application route is not designed to log the six scores; normal infrastructure may process technical request information as described in the Privacy Policy. Unfinished additional answers may be lost when you reload or leave the page. Completing all 60 questions replaces the current 30-question result and its saved answers in this page's browser history. If you choose a preparation level, that numeric choice is sent with the six scores and is not saved on AltoTrail's server.
Review status
Work interests is available for a limited public evaluation. The product owner approved the five-language experience, source and license basis, and browser-local answer privacy. AltoTrail has not independently validated the assessment or established national norms or equivalence across languages.

USDOL/ETA has not approved, endorsed, recommended, certified, validated or tested AltoTrail's adaptations. O*NET® is a trademark of USDOL/ETA. The European Commission has not endorsed AltoTrail's matching, projection or presentation.

What the preparation levels mean
Matching uses only O*NET occupations in the selected preparation level. These are linked to European occupations, whose education and experience requirements may differ.
Level 1 – Some preparation
May include upper-secondary preparation, short workplace training, or limited prior experience.
Level 2 – Vocational preparation
Includes vocational education, apprenticeship, relevant experience, longer workplace training, or shorter post-secondary education.
Level 3 – Extensive preparation
Includes higher education, extensive relevant experience, or substantial vocational preparation.
Level 4 – Advanced preparation
Includes advanced academic or professional education and extensive specialist preparation or experience.
