Method, sources and limitations
Purpose and limits
Work interests supports self-directed career exploration by reflecting which types of work activities you may enjoy. It does not measure ability, qualifications, personality or suitability, and it does not predict future success or make employment decisions. It is not intended for recruitment, candidate filtering or ranking, promotion, dismissal, work allocation or performance monitoring, and it should not be the sole basis for an important decision about a person.
O*NET Mini Interest Profiler
The questions use and adapt the O*NET Mini Interest Profiler 2.0, part of the O*NET Career Exploration Tools from the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration (USDOL/ETA). AltoTrail provides the presentation, integrations and translations where applicable.
O*NET Database
Occupation-level interest profiles come from the O*NET 30.3 Database from USDOL/ETA, used under CC BY 4.0. AltoTrail applies its own deterministic matching and presentation to locally tracked data; this is not an O*NET Web Services runtime integration.
ESCO
This service uses the ESCO classification of the European Commission. AltoTrail uses ESCO 1.2.1 occupation identities, labels and routes for European occupation exploration.
European Commission O*NET–ESCO crosswalk
The official source maps O*NET-SOC 2019 occupations to ESCO 1.1.0. AltoTrail validates and applies the source relations to project O*NET candidates into the currently published ESCO 1.2.1 occupation authority, then filters and localizes the presentation. AltoTrail did not author the meanings of the source relations.
AltoTrail's contribution
AltoTrail provides the five-locale web experience, local deterministic scoring, matching against tracked O*NET occupation-interest profiles, projection and publication through current ESCO occupations, localized occupation pages, version controls, accessibility behavior and contract tests.
Privacy
Your 30 raw answers remain in browser memory, and your interest profile is calculated in the browser. Only six aggregated interest scores are sent to AltoTrail's server to find occupation suggestions; raw answers are not sent. AltoTrail does not save the assessment profile or link it to an account, email address, job alert or application. Answers are not stored in localStorage or sessionStorage, so refreshing or closing the page removes them and the current profile. The application route is not designed to log the six scores; normal infrastructure may process technical request information as described in the Privacy Policy. If you choose a preparation range, that numeric choice is sent with the six scores and is not saved.
Review status
English source parity, official Spanish source parity and technical parity checks are implemented. Human in-context language review for all five locales, comprehension review, validation-study assessment, final license and legal review, and privacy review remain pending. This experience is not available in production.

USDOL/ETA has not approved, endorsed, recommended, certified, validated or tested AltoTrail's adaptations. O*NET® is a trademark of USDOL/ETA. The European Commission has not endorsed AltoTrail's matching, projection or presentation.

What the preparation levels mean
Preparation may include education, vocational training, apprenticeship, workplace training, and relevant experience. Each maximum includes the levels below it.
Level 1 – Some preparation
May include upper-secondary preparation, short workplace training, or limited prior experience.
Level 2 – Vocational preparation
Also includes vocational education, apprenticeship, relevant experience, longer workplace training, or shorter post-secondary education.
Level 3 – Extensive preparation
Also includes higher education, extensive relevant experience, or substantial vocational preparation.
Level 4 – Advanced preparation
Also includes advanced academic or professional education and extensive specialist preparation or experience.
